What is Wistia?
Wistia is a video hosting and analytics service that serves as a hub for your It’s a Money Thing videos. This service is included in all levels of It’s a Money Thing membership. Whether you’re looking to embed videos on your website, share videos on social media, or track your video statistics, you start by logging in to your Wistia account.
Login
When you first subscribe to It’s a Money Thing, your primary contact will receive an invitation to your Wistia account by email. It will look something like this:
Note: Not seeing the invite email in your inbox? Check your spam folder. Still no luck? Let us know by sending us a message to info@currencymarketing.ca.
The invitation link will take you to Wistia’s sign in page. If it’s your first time using Wistia, click Sign Up to create a new account.
Enter your name and password, then click Create a Free Account.
Home Page
When you first sign in to your Wistia account, you’ll see a home page that displays your most played videos. The menu on the left has links to the following sections:
- Content Library: This section is where your videos are stored and managed.
- Live Events: Please ignore this as it does not apply to our use case.
- Channels: This section houses a shareable and embeddable gallery of your videos.
Content Library Overview
Click on the Content Library link in the menu on the left. You will see a folder titled with your credit union name that looks something like this:
Click on your credit union name to view your Folder.
You will see your entire library of It’s a Money Thing videos, grouped by category.
Note: Clicking on the category title toggles between showing and hiding all videos within that category.
Media Options
The Media Page helps you track and share individual videos.
From your Media Page, click on a video. You will see the selected video displayed within a player, as well as blue Embed and Share buttons in the upper right corner of the screen. Also note the options available in the sidebar to the left.
Media Options relevant to your use:
- Analytics: View video-specific statistics, including total plays, play rate, and average engagement.
- Download: Download a single video by choosing from a wide range of file sizes.
- Embed: Copy the embed codes for sharing your video on your website or by email.
- Share: Copy the public link for sharing your video on social media.
A Note About Media Options in Wistia:
When your Wistia account is first set up, the Currency team takes great care to optimize your media settings. Please avoid the Edit Media option and you do not need to use the Add to Channel option, since we have already done this.
Video Player Overview
Additional features are accessible through the video player itself.
Note: Video player features are publicly available (anyone viewing the video has access to them).
The buttons along the bottom of the video player give viewers the following video playback options:
- Captions: Viewers can choose to show/hide closed captions or search the entire video transcript, right within the video player.
- Volume Control
- Video Speed and Quality Settings
- Share: Embed, email and share to Facebook, X, and LinkedIn
- Fullscreen Mode
Channel Overview
Return to the Home page, click the Channels link in the menu on the left. You will see a Channel titled with your credit union name that looks something like this:
Click on your credit union name to view your Channel details.
Channel Options relevant to your use:
- Analytics: View channel statistics, including total plays, total time played and top episodes.
- Export all media: Download your entire library of videos in a single zip archive.
- Embed: Copy the embed code for sharing your channel on your website.
- Share: Copy the public link for sharing your channel on social media and invite contributors to your channel.
A Note About Channel Settings in Wistia:
When your Wistia account is first set up, the Currency team takes great care to optimize your Channel settings. Changes to these default settings may prevent your videos from displaying correctly. For this reason, please avoid making any changes to your Settings or Customization.
Note: The Promote, Podcast Settings, and Add options cannot be used without a separate paid Wistia subscription.
Account Settings
To update your account settings (such as your email, password, time zone and notification preferences), click on Account | Settings in the upper right corner of the screen.
